In the post-match conference, Gukesh opens up about his dream to play against former world champion Magnus Carlsen in the World Chess Championship. However, the Norwegian maverick says he’s not a part of ‘this circus anymore’.
India’s D Gukesh beats the former world champion Ding Liren to become the youngest chess champion. The Indian grandmaster, 18, took advantage of Ding’s blunder in the final match of FIDE World Chess Championship 2024 in Singapore to become the 18th and India’s second classical chess champion.
During the post-match conference, Gukesh confesses that he believes Magnus is still the best player in the world, and he wants to play the classical championship against the Norwegian grandmaster.
He says, “Obviously playing against Magnus in the world championship would be amazing, it would be the toughest challenge there is in chess. It is up to Magnus, but I would love to test myself against the best player in the world.”
